A snapping turtle paid a short but sweet visit to the garden today. He dug a hole from outside the wall of the garden and then right up into it! In the summertime when I was little, my sitter Bevy would bring her grandson over to chase me around and swim in our bay. One warm afternoon, we were swimming near the lily pads and her grandson screamed in freak terror; a baby snapping turtle was hanging onto his finger with its mouth clamped shut! My goodness I thought his finger was gone but Bevy got the little turtle off of him and his finger turned out to be fine. Ever since then, I have kept my eye open for those sharp jawed turtles.
