This morning, my dear friend Ryan and I unloaded our soda kiln. This was my first soda firing and what an incredible experience it was! I am grateful for all the help, knowledge, laughs, and fun that Ryan brought to this firing. Without his efforts and presence, I am sure that the firing would not have turned out as lovely as it had. How incredible to see that altering the atmosphere of a high-fire kiln will create such unexpected changes to the glazed pieces. The way the baskets altered in shape was especially peculiar compared to my pieces that have been high-fired; no soda added. So much has been gained from this moment and I am thankful that this beautiful soda firing happened.
